Why Not the Best?
In 1983, Major was in the top 15% of his high school in an inner city, and even students performing below him could get accepted to Harvard, while today 99% of the students at his alma mater graduate to four-year colleges while in APS, only one third of students even take the SAT. Sometimes you just gotta say, "WTF?"

Wakefield High School
A 1230 SAT is considered above average, in the 84 percentile nationally, and could make you eligible for a merit-based scholarship at some competitive state colleges, but not the Ivy League.

Washington-Liberty High School
A 1310 SAT is considered very good, around the 89th percentile nationally, but it is still not quite "Harvard Material". When admissions counselors notice 30% of your competition are deficient in math, it is not going to be a good meeting.

Yorktown High School
APS is the 13th largest public school district, but spends more per pupil than any other in the state, but with only a 1310 SAT, even the best high school is not a ticket to the Ivy League for children from median value homes exceeding $850,000.
