ABOUT MAJOR 4 APS

Independent Candidate for School Board

FIRST LITIGATION AGAINST SCHOOL CLOSURES AND PANDEMIC RESPONSE

On May 17, 1954, under Chief Justice Earl Warren, the U.S. Supreme Court had found that "education is perhaps the most important function of state and local governments", and had concluded that where t "where the state has undertaken to provide it, is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms."

And, on April 19, 2024, almost 70 years after the landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education, Commonwealth's Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, a member of the Arlington NAACP, filed a motion to dismiss a case brought to compel an investigation into the arbitrary and capricious closure of the Arlington Public Schools (APS), averring that the prosecutor had no duty to investigate a conspiracy to violate the civil rights of almost 30,000 children, 90%  of the school-age children in the County of Arlington,  a case now in Richmond before the Court of Appeals.

It was the first and only litigation in the nation brought to challenge the COVID-19 pandemic response in public schools, and departing APS Vice Chair David Priddy, in epitaph to his service stated at his last school board meeting, "We will always be linked to Covid and our response to it."

Major Mike Webb, described by former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland as a "litigation hobbyist", although not a parent, brought that case.

MISSION STATEMENT

Empowering Education and Commanding Performance

As an alumnus of the prestigious Washington & Lee University, earning his baccalaureate degree not in politics, but public policy, Major's political campaign began and remains focused upon achievement of defined objectives. Unlike other typical campaigns discussing generalities, Major's mission is to attain discrete, defined objectives: 1) compel mammograms for students who may have breast cancer because of the COVID-19 vaccines; 2) prompt a commission to determine public charter schools that may provide better outcomes in the public school system; 3) enforce budget discipline by voting down the next school board bond issue; 4) improve outcomes by decreasing the disparity between White and non-White holders of s baccalaureate degree in the progressive and most educated municipality in Virginia, and 5) with the assistance of the first and only case brought to challenge the pandemic response, address the resulting learning loss and hold APS leaders accountable.
